Modern European-Russian Pioneers
The modernist age can be characterized by the uncontrollable desire for freedom, equality and brotherhood. It stirred a revolutionary spirit within Europe and liberation movements in all spheres of life. Artists initiated a paradigm shift in art and articulated a respectively feudal, national and absolute identity in their art. Russian artists kept abreast of artistic developments in Europe, embraced their own cultural history and moved beyond. We will discuss the highly inspiring art of Goncharova, Malevich, Kandinsky and Popova.
To be continued...
Due to the organisation of two Russian art shows in the NL-Russia year 2013, this lecture will firstly be published in different parts in 2014. With apologies for the delay.
